Why Do I Get Angry When Dogs Roam Around Loose During the Summer

I don’t know why it is, but every summer there are always more dogs I see running around loose.Wait a minute! Yes I do know. I have already written about this before. Yes, it’s coming back to me. Read the article I posted last summer about this. Oh, and here is another article about it.

So what am I up in arms about? Just in the past two days I have seen loose dogs while I am out doing my dog walking and pet sitting. I get upset at owners who don’t take a more active role in making sure their pets are safe and secure.

I know that sometimes a pet can get out without an owner’s knowledge, but isn’t it up to the owners to make sure their pets are safe?

One dog the other day was roaming around while I had a client’s dog out. After my full visit, I drove around a bit but could not find the dog that I had seen. Just yesterday, I saw another dog roaming around while I was out with another client’s dog. Again, I drove around looking for it after my visit. This time, I found the dog. It was nervous, and I just followed it for a while.

It had come from a very, very busy street… very dangerous. The dog didn’t seem to like me following it, but after several blocks, ended up under a car where two women were standing and talking. I told them there was a dog under their car, and it ended up being their dog! The little pup had led me to his home.

Well, the woman yelled at it and ran it inside the house. I don’t blame the dog, I blame the owner. I want to yell to all pet owners. Make sure your pets are safe!

Read the articles I have written in the past. One turns out okay, the other…

Well, read it and find out why I am so angered when I see a dog that has gotten loose.

An Example of an Irresponsible Pet Owner

One of my pet sitting clients recently lost her dog in a dog attack in her own front yard. Her chihuahua was out front with her and a neighbor’s dog ran into the yard, attacked and broke the little guy’s back. It was horrible and she will never recover. The loose dog was picked up by animal control and euthanized, so everyone loses on this one. I agree- confine your dogs!

And this is why I am preaching to my readers. No one should have to go through that. I do realize that some dogs have been abandoned and are strays, but if you live even in a semi-decent area, most dogs will be lost dogs, not strays. This must have been horrible for the dog owner, and thanks for adding your comment. Pet owners need to be responsible, and the attacking dog’s owner obviously was not. You are right, everyone lost on this one.
