Probably the first ones I ever bought. He was my hero-- I practiced drawing animals from those books; it was fun to see his name again all these years later.

Comment on A Good Reason to Spay and Neuter Your Pets

A natural alternative to spaying or neutering is to simply mate your pet in a responsible way. Take a look at to post a listing for your pet so that owners of a matching animal can get together with you for a possible mating. This can be especially helpful for rare breeds.

However, please be careful that you do this responsibly. If you don't have the knowledge to safely breed your animal, then it may be better to hold off and get the animal surgery. Even if it isn't natural, we need to care for our animals in a mature and responsible way.

Comment on Can Your Pets Catch Your Cold?

In reply to can your pets catch your cold? I worked for several years in one of the major influenza research labs in the UK. I saw human influenza viruses being used in animal models. Hamsters and mice can catch the virus but do not develop the same severe symptoms as humans. However, if you have a pet ferret beware, they can catch influenza and develop chronic respiratory disease, coughing and all the rest of the symptoms that go with the flu. I know because I had to help take the temperatures of these animals.... not the easiest of things to do with a glass thermometer and lubricant. Watch out for the sharp end while doing this!I hope this helps answering the influenza part of the question. Not so sure about the common cold virus infections.

Comment on Can Your Pet Catch the Swine Flu (H1N1 Virus)?

Excellent point made! Pet owners should watch carefully to see if your pet are shoing any signs of having the H1N1 virus.

It is reported that a 13 year old cat in Iowa has been confirmed having the H1N1 flu virus. I don't think the spread among pets will be that severe but better be safe and observe your pets as they are a part of the family.

Question I wonder is how many more cases of pets having H1N1 are out there? That would be interesting to know.

Love your pet blog, keep up the great work!

Comment on Some Interesting Cat Facts

lol can't believe the cat Himmy had a 33 inch waist...too many treats I think

Comment on Animal Testing for Dog Treat Review

It seems that everyone likes the idea of video posts. I have plans for many more videos, so look for those to be on the way. I will keep them around 2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes long only. Thanks for all your positive comments.

Comment on Animal Testing for Dog Treat Review

Great Video Rick! Nicely done! Also, I like that the video was quick; I didn't feel like I had to invest a whole lot of time in order to get some useful information. I'll watch a 2-minute video without thinking much; if the video were 5 minutes, I'd have to think about whether I wanted to watch it, and I probably would put it off for a long time.
Thanks for doing the video; I got something out of it.

Comment on Animal Testing for Dog Treat Review

They sound promising. I'd be interestedin the overall percentages for things like fat, protein etc. as my dog is on a restricted diet.
