Hi Tish,

Yes, since this would, or could be an act of animal cruelty, you may call the police.
Now, I did not call 911 however, but I called the police non-emergency phone
number. The dog was still very active and alert so I did not think it was appropriate
to call 911. But, if you see a dog in a hot car that is not moving and you can easily
tell that the dog is in distress and in danger of death, then I would call 911. This
would be an emergency and the police would go after the person who left the
dog in that car.

Hi Richard -

I'm so glad you called the police about the dog left in the car. That really angers me as well when I see that, but it never really occured to me to call the police about it - next time, I will. I guess I didn't realize that would be something they would handle at all. Glad to know that it is.
Take Care, Tish
